GUIDE / BAMBU STUDIO & MAKERWORLD FILES
Bambu or MakerWorld 3MF to STL.
A 3MF downloaded from MakerWorld or saved in Bambu Studio is often a full slicer project, not a plain model. Some other slicers, including some versions of Cura and PrusaSlicer, report that the file has no model or cannot be loaded. Converting the geometry to STL is the reliable way to print it elsewhere.

01
Why the file will not open
3MF is a container. A Bambu Studio project stores each object in separate files under 3D/Objects/, plus Bambu-specific settings, plates, modifiers and thumbnails. A slicer that does not read that project layout may load nothing, or report a corrupt file, even though the geometry is inside.
Renaming the file to .zip does not help much: the parts are 3MF model XML, not STL files.
02
If you have Bambu Studio
Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio and use File → Export:
- Export all objects as one STL… gives a single STL with every object.
- Export all objects as STLs… gives one STL per object.
- Export Generic 3MF… writes a 3MF without Bambu’s extensions, which other slicers read more easily.
This is the best option when you have the software installed, because Bambu Studio understands its own modifiers and negative parts.
03
On MakerWorld
The download button on a model page has a menu option for STL/CAD files. It only contains files if the designer uploaded them; MakerWorld does not extract STLs from a 3MF for you. If the STL download is empty, use one of the other options.
04
Without installing anything
Choose the 3MF in the 3MF to STL converter. It reads the Bambu project layout, applies each object’s position and scale, and shows the parts in 3D. Download one STL, or choose Separate STLs in a ZIP to get each part on its own.
Objects from every plate in the project are included at their positions. Select the parts you want before downloading if you only need one plate.
05
What is kept and what is not
- Kept: printed object geometry, sizes in millimeters, and positions.
- Left out, with a notice: Bambu Studio settings modifiers and support blockers or enforcers. They change print settings and are not printed shapes.
- Not converted: projects with negative parts (shapes cut out of a model). Flattening them would give a wrong model, so the converter stops and asks you to export from Bambu Studio.
- Not in STL at all: colors, painted multi-material areas, filament choices, supports and print settings. Keep the original 3MF for those.
06
.gcode.3mf files are different
A file ending in .gcode.3mf is a sliced print job for a Bambu printer. It holds toolpaths, normally without the model mesh, so it cannot be turned back into an accurate STL. Ask for the project 3MF or the STL instead.
07
How this was checked
The converter was tested with project files saved by Bambu Studio 2.0 from its public source repository, including a project with speed modifiers and a ZIP64 package. Each STL was compared with an independent reader. MakerWorld files vary, so review the STL in your slicer before printing, and only convert models whose license allows it.
